Our Core Virtues

Temperance

Temperance is one of the four cardinal virtues in classical philosophy and Christian theology. It refers to moderation, self-restraint, and the ability to control one’s desires and impulses, particularly in regard to pleasures like food, drink, and other indulgences. It doesn’t mean complete abstinence but rather finding balance and maintaining control over one’s actions.

Kindness

Kindness is the virtue deeply rooted in Christian theology and the character of God. It reflects God’s love and grace, and believers are called to embody it in their lives. Kindness is seen as an essential aspect of Christian living, fostering community, healing relationships, and demonstrating the transformative power of God’s love.

Charity

Charity is the virtue that enables individuals to love God above all things and to love their neighbors as themselves for the sake of God. It is considered the highest form of love, reflecting divine love and selflessness. Charity involves acts of kindness, compassion, and generosity, aiming to promote the spiritual and physical well-being of others.

Chastity

Chastity is the virtue that involves the successful integration of sexuality within the person, fostering unity between the body and spirit. It is considered a form of the cardinal virtue of temperance, which seeks to regulate desires and passions with reason and faith. Chastity is not merely about abstinence but about self-mastery and the proper expression of love in accordance with one’s state of life—whether single, married, or consecrated.

Humility

Humility is the virtue that reflects recognizing one’s dependence on God and valuing others above oneself. It is closely tied to Jesus’ teachings and example, as He demonstrated ultimate humility through His life, service, and sacrifice for humanity.
